Instituted 5 December 1916 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1916 1924 issue). Constructed of aluminum, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm III, the reverse with an inscription of FR KRIEGS HILFDIENST (FOR WAR ASSISTANCE), unmarked, measuring 42. 69 mm (w) x 42. 98 mm (w), weighing 8. 1 grams (inclusive of
